The theme for this year's Saskatchewan Library Week (October 18-25, 2010) is "Libraries=Possibilities". To help celebrate our favorite week of the year, here is a select list of library-themed horror novels for you to check out:
Overdue by Richie Tankersley Cusick
Summary: Disturbed when five books about death are returned overdue to the library, slashed and containing a warning on a bookmark, library employee Kathleen is terrified when people close to her start falling victim to tragic "accidents".
Personal Demons by Christopher Fowler
Summary: Check out the story Dracula's Library where a vampire library starts to attacks its own readers. The rest of the anthology include a hotel offers a taboo service for its troubled clients; a young man winding a thousand clocks before sunset; and a shy young man loses a dog and discovers the cutlery of the Marquis de Sade.
The Book of the Damned by D. A. Fowler
Summary: After borrowing "The Book of the Damned" from the library, horror novel aficionado Rosalyn Vaughn finds herself living in shrieking, relentless nightmares of madness.
Open Season by Linda Howard

In the Dark by Richard Laymon
Summary: Nothing much happens to Jane Kerry, a young librarian. Then one day Jane finds an envelope containing a fifty-dollar bill and a note instructing her to "Look homeward, angel." Jane pulls a copy of the Thomas Wolfe novel of that title off the shelf and finds a second envelope. This one contains a hundred-dollar bill and another clue. Both are signed, "MOG (Master of Games)." But this is no ordinary game. As it goes on, it requires more and more of Jane's ingenuity, and pushes her into actions that she knows are crazy, immoral or criminal--and it becomes continually more dangerous. More than once, Jane must fight for her life, and she soon learns that MOG won't let her quit this game. She'll have to play to the bitter end.
University by Bentley Little
Summary: Reluctantly returning for another semester at UC, campus editor Jim Parker and library assistant Faith Pullen are alarmed by a series of bloody accidents that seem to be linked to an eerie and sinister force.
The Demon's Librarian by Lilith Saintcrow
Summary: Demons are preying on schoolchildren in her city, so Francesca Barnes does what any red-blooded librarian would do-she does some research and goes hunting. But the books she finds in a secret cache don't tell her the whole story. Chess has no idea what she's just stepped into or just how special she is. Orion is Drakul, part demon, and a loyal servant of the Order. He doesn't expect a motorcycle-riding librarian to be messing around with demonic forces, and he doesn't expect her to smell so damn good. But Ryan's got bigger problems. His partner has disappeared, and the forces of Darkness are rising. Now Chess is Ryan's only hope of finding his partner, and Ryan is Chess's only hope of survival because the demons now know Chess exists and that she is the heir to a long-lost power that could push back their dark tide.
