Academy Award-winning director Sydney Pollack (Tootsie and Out of Africa) died of cancer Monday afternoon at his home in Pacific Palisades in Los Angeles,. He was 73.
Pollack, who occasionally appeared on the screen himself, worked with some of Hollywood's best actors. In recent years, he produced many independent films with filmmaker Anthony Minghella, who also passed away this year.
