As a result of an agreement reached with British Columbia, a new method of classifying and regulating film and video material came into effect in Saskatchewan, effective October 1, 1997. These new classifications are listed below:
- G - General
Content is considered to be suitable for viewing by all ages.
- PG - Parental Guidance
Themes or content of the film or video may not be suitable for all children. Parental guidance is suggested, but children are permitted unsupervised access.
- 14A - Parents Cautioned
The film is suitable for viewing by persons 14 years of age or older, but not for children under 14 unless accompanied by an adult. The film may contain violence, coarse language, and sexually suggestive scenes.
- 18A - Parents Strongly Cautioned
The film is suitable for viewing by persons 18 years of age or older, but not for persons under 18 unless accompanied by an adult. The film may contain violence, coarse language, and sexually suggestive scenes.
- R - Restricted (18 years and older)
The film is not suitable for viewing by anyone under 18 years of age; the film will contain the frequent use of brutal or graphic violence, intense horror, explicit sexual activity or other disturbing content.
- A - Adult (18 years and older)
The film is not suitable for viewing by anyone under 18 years of age as the film will consist predominantly of explicit sexual scenes.
- TBA - Rating to be announced
Film titles followed by TBA have not been rated by the Saskatchewan Film Classification Board at the time of program publication. For information regarding rating of specific films, call (306) 777-6104. Ratings are posted outside the Film Theatre.
