Volunteer Tutors

To become a tutor at Regina Public Library, you must:
- have a grade 12 diploma
- submit:
- a written work reference
- a written personal reference
- a criminal record check (free of charge)
- attend a tutor intake appointment
- complete an online or in-class tutor training course

Your commitment as a Volunteer Tutor:
- Complete one of the tutor training courses
- Tutor an adult learner two hours per week (time is flexible)
- Plan lessons and activities for your learner
- Provide updates about your learner to the Library's Literacy Services Unit staff

TRAINING
ESL tutor training course:
- An online format with ongoing registration
- An in-class format offered at scheduled times
Tutor training topics include:
- Cultural sensitivity
- Characteristics of adult learners
- Lesson planning
- Effective tutoring methods and activities
SUPPORT
- Literacy staff available for consultation
- Regina Public Library Literacy collection
- Tutor in-service workshops
- Photocopying and printing of tutoring materials
- Volunteer recognition
