When are branches opening?
We are working to re-open Glen Elm, Regent Place, Albert, Connaught, and Prince of Wales Branches on July 9.
Central Library, George Bothwell Branch, Sherwood Village Branch, and Sunrise Branch will re-open on July 13 (curbside pick-up will still be available from these branches in the meantime).
The Province of Saskatchewan has given public libraries permission to open earlier, but it takes time to prepare for a safe reopening.
We’re using this time to make necessary changes to our facilities and operations to meet your needs, while following the safety protocols required to keep library customers and staff safe.

Why aren't you reopening Monday, June 29?
We are thrilled to welcome you back to our physical spaces soon, but it takes time to prepare for a safe reopening.
We're using this time to implement safety guidelines released by the Re-Open Saskatchewan Plan on June 23, recall staff, and set up our spaces for safe social distancing.
What hours will the library be open?
All locations will be open from 10:00am to 6:00pm, Monday through Saturday, and from 1:00 to 5:00pm on Sundays, to match our current hotline and curbside pickup hours.
What are you doing to ensure the safety of your staff and customers when you open?
We're following the required guidelines from the Re-Open Saskatchewan Plan, using recommendations from the Saskatchewan Health Authority and learning from the experiences of other public libraries.
Our safety measures will include:
- Social distancing protocols for being in, and moving through the library
- Cleaning protocols
- Quarantining materials for 72 hours before checking them in
- Masks will be required for staff
- Modifying services and how they’re delivered, to allow for safe social distancing.
- When opening, there will be fewer seats, modified floor plans, limited capacities, redirected crowd flow in certain areas, sneeze guards, and other changes to limit contact.
Will I still be able to use the computers at the library?
Yes. Computer stations will be available in each branch, with modifications for safe social distancing.
Stations will be located farther away from each other. Touch screens will not be available. Suggested time limits may be in effect, and cleaning protocols will be followed.
Can I sit and read in the library or stay in the library for long periods of time?
We have to remove most seating and tables, and we're asking people to limit their time at the library in order to meet occupancy standards for health and safety.
Will the Dunlop Art Galleries be open?
Yes. As exhibitions are ready, you will be able to enter the gallery spaces to view them, while practicing social distancing.
You will also be able to return and borrow art from our collection.
Will the RPL Film Theatre be open?
No. The RPL Film Theatre will not be open at this time, but we will continue to evaluate, adapt, and add services as we go.
Can I use the Digital Media Studio?
Yes. You will be able to book time to use the equipment and resources in the Digital Media Studio. Appointments will be scheduled to ensure physical distancing is observed in the space. Hours may vary in accordance health and safety procedures.
Can I book a meeting room?
No. At this time, you will not be able to book time in RPL meeting rooms.
Will you have in-person programs?
Not yet. We will continue to offer online programming via Zoom. In the future, we hope to add outdoor programs, and then indoor programs, as Provincial guidelines change to allow for larger gatherings.
Can I borrow toys, board games and kits?
Can I borrow musical instruments?
Yes, musical instruments will be available to borrow when the library opens.
Will you be charging fines or fees on library materials?
Not at this time. We will suspend all fines and fees until the end of September, 2020
What services will not be available when the library opens?
When we first reopen, the following services and materials will not be available, but we’ll continue to evaluate, adapt and add services as we go.
- Meeting room bookings
- In-person programs
- RPL Film Theatre screenings
- Touchscreen computers
- Board Games, and
- Language and other kits.
Will you be open on holidays this summer?
No. All locations, curbside pickup, and hotlines will be closed on:
- Canada Day – July 1
- Saskatchewan Day – August 2-3
- Labour Day – September 6-7
Will branch Booksale items be available?
Yes, Booksale carts will be available and items are free of charge, until further notice.
Is the library accepting donations of books and other materials?
RPL will not be accepting donations of books and other materials, until further notice.
I am not an RPL customer. Can I pick up holds at an RPL location?
SILS customers can select RPL branches and any other participating SILS locations as their pick-up location.
Are there any changes to printing or photocopying?
For now, in an effort to reduce cash handling, RPL has removed the cost for printing and photocopying on a trial basis. We ask that customers respect this service and not abuse it by printing or copy large amounts of material.
Can I bring my own reusable bag into the library?
Yes, however you will have to pack it yourself as RPL staff will not handle outside bags.
Can I still get change for the bus from the library?
In an effort to minimize cash handling, we will not make change for any reason, including not providing change for the bus.
For further questions regarding bus fare, the City’s Transit Info Centre at 2124 11th Ave, M-F until 6pm and Saturdays until 4:30pm.
Is Outreach Services opening?
Outreach will be available as a Holds Pickup location starting July 13. Outreach deliveries will begin again on July 14. Outreach Services will not be open to walk in traffic until further notice.
