Shot from first-person perspective in time-lapse on Super 8 film, Mino-bimaadiziwin (The Good Life) documents the artist’s first time using a wheelchair, during a walking tour with elder Carolyn King at the Artist for Film residency at Artscape Gibraltar Point. In it, the artist attempts to reconcile herself as a mixed-race indigenous Colombian settler "walking the red road" while living with disabilities; learning to live mino-bimaadiziwin.
Jaene F. Castrillon is a film-based interdisciplinary artist that explores her relationship to the world through spiritual teachings and the wisdom of the land. As a 1st generation settler of mixed race (indigenous Colombian/Hong Kong Chinese) and a queer woman living with disabilities, her arts practice combines, art, activism and spirituality to open a dialogue on preconceived notions of wellness and illness.
