Newcomer Career Launch Series

Real Stories, Real Pathways to Success

Description

This series features real success stories of newcomers launching their careers in Canada, with each session highlighting the paths, choices, and strategies that helped them move beyond survival jobs.

Additional Information

Newcomer Career Launch Series is a storytelling series featuring immigrants and newcomers who have successfully entered their professional fields in Canada. Each episode highlights a personal journey—how they moved beyond survival jobs, navigated challenges, and built meaningful careers through effective strategies and decisions.

The goal is to provide practical insights and inspiration for other newcomers looking to accelerate their own path to success. By learning from real experiences, viewers gain valuable knowledge on career development, credential recognition, networking, and more - all from those who’ve done it before.

This session features Franquil Rodríguez, a Dominican immigrant who turned his international accounting expertise into a thriving Canadian career in his professional field. From leading IFRS reporting for an insurance company in the Dominican Republic to becoming a Financial Analyst at Brandt — one of Canada’s top industrial leaders — Franquil followed a clear roadmap to success.

He:

  • Validated his credentials through World Education Services (WES) and began the CPA Saskatchewan relicensing process
  • Built local experience in a customer service role at Walmart
  • Leveraged professional networking to accelerate his path into his field

In this session, Franquil will reveal how he secured a professional role within months of completing his postgraduate studies, why targeting the right jobs beats applying for every job, and how bridging credentials with purposeful networking can fast-track your career success.
