Shantel Miller is currently exhibiting in "In My Skin" at Dunlop Art Gallery, Central Gallery. Join her in her studio as she discusses her work, influences, and practices with artist, filmmaker, and writer Thirza Cuthand.
Shantel' Miller is a Jamaican-Canadian visual artist based in Boston, MA. She recently received her MFA at Boston University and is the recipient of the Boston Ujima Project 2022-2024 Artist Fellowship. Since earning a BFA from OCADU in 2013, Shantel has exhibited in group shows and art fairs across North America and has artwork in numerous private collections around the world. She has participated in residences including the Cuttyhunk Island Artists in Residence, Nia Centre for the Arts Artists-in-Residence and the Converging Liberations Residency as Mass MoCA. She is the recipient of the 2021 Dedalus Foundation MFA Painting and Sculpture Fellowship, the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grans, and the Esther B. and Albert S. Kahn Career Entry Award.
Thirza Jean Cuthand (b. 1978 Regina SK) makes videos, films, and performance art, about sexuality, madness, Queer identity, love, and Indigeneity, which have screened in festivals and galleries internationally. They completed their BFA majoring in Film/Video at ECUAD in 2005, and their MA in Media Production at X University in 2015. She is a Whitney Biennial 2019 artist. He is Plains Cree/Scots, a member of Little Pine First Nation, and resides in Toronto, Canada.
