Presented in partnership with the Equity Diversity and Inclusion Network (EDIN), it is part of a series of online Indigenous-led programs for school groups to acknowledge and celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day.

Elaine McArthur is a Dakota/Nakota from the Ocean Man First Nation on Treaty 4 Territory. She has an Indigenous Education Degree from the First Nation University of Canada in Regina Saskatchewan. She grew up in a very traditional lifestyle, learning her culture from her parents who passed down their teachings from their ancestors. Elaine has been dancing powwow since childhood and recently returned to the dancing circle, after stepping away from it for many years after the passing of her parents.
Elaine has won the Indigenous Voices Awards for her various writings, including Elizabeth Dances Pow-wow. She has been published in different magazines and anthologies for her poetry and short stories and she has done author readings and cultural teaching events with various schools and organizations.
Elaine currently lives in Regina, Saskatchewan with her husband and dog. She values her grown children, grandchildren and strives to be a model of kindness and generosity for them.
