Metis Plants for Food, Medicine & Tools: Grades 5-12

Description

Grades 5 to 12. Metis herbalist Kalyn Kodiak will share stories and examples of how her Metis ancestors used plants to stay safe, healthy and warm.

Additional Information

The Metis people used plants and animals to create almost everything they needed. Their homes, clothing, food, medicine and transportation were adapted from raw materials available on the prairies. Through knowledge of plants, and skills passed down from generation to generation, Metis ancestors were able to live a good life, hundreds of miles from the nearest town, fort or doctor. Kalyn Kodiak's visual storytelling will highlight practices that are still in use among some Metis people to this day.
