Holly Fay's schematic drawings and paintings fluctuate between the representational and the abstract. Derived from an interest in natural phenomena occurring within the worlds of the microscopic, macroscopic, biotic and abiotic, Fay’s recent work questions the relationships within the ecological and physical systems of our natural world. Depictions of nebulous entities ‘float’ within undefinable spaces creating a wondrous vacillation between the real and the imaginary, questioning what appears to us be it atomic particles, astrological bodies, clouds, rain or microscopic organisms, all of which simultaneously merge together as one.
Holly Fay completed a BFA from the University of Regina and an MFA from the University of Ulster in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Her art practice encompasses painting, drawing, mixed media, and installation with projects examining ecology, emergent patterns, systems of knowledge, ideas of place, and phenomenology. Fay’s work has been exhibited in Canada and abroad, and is in public collections including the MacKenzie Art Gallery, the City of Regina, and the Saskatchewan Arts Board.
