From her small village of Kitamaat to the big screen, acclaimed author Eden Robinson has proven that stories rooted in small communities can connect with people all over the world. 

Join us at Central Library and find out what it was like for Eden to see her novels adapted for screen. She'll talk about the exciting process of turning her second book, Monkey Beach, into a movie, and how Son of a Trickster became a TV series on the CW.

Eden has made a big impact by setting her stories in her small village of just 500 people. She'll describe her journey into writing and the people who encouraged her to share her stories. She'll also talk about how she developed the unique blend of place, family, humour, and lived experience that shape her books. 

Author bio: Eden Robinson is an award-winning Indigenous writer and member of the Haisla and Heiltsuk First Nations. Eden is the author of the short story collection, Traplines (1995). Traplines won the Winifred Holtby Prize for best first work of fiction and was a New York Times Notable Book. Her second book, Monkey Beach was awarded with the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize. Eden's third novel, Blood Sports, was pubished in 2006 and revisits characters from Traplines.

Eden is also the author of the Trickster-trilogy published by Knopf Canada: Son of a Tricksters (2017), Trickster Drift (2018), and Return of the Trickster (2021). Son of a Trickster was shortlisted for the 2017 Scotiabank Giller Prize and a finalist for the 2020 edition of Canada Reads. Trickster Drift won the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize in 2019.

Eden's work has been adapted for the screen. Son of a Trickster was adapted into a television series called Trickster that ran on CBC Television and the CW in 2020. Her novel, Monkey Beach, was turned into a film directed by Loretta Todd and premiered at the 2020 Vancouver International Film Festival in September 2020.
