Aubrey Reeves: Varsity Stadium
Curated by Jennifer Matotek
November 20 - 24, 2013 in the Dunlop Resource Centre, Central Gallery.
Additional Information
Aubrey Reeves' short animation and flipbook, Varsity Stadium uses a one-minute clip of the 1950 Grey Cup game played between the Toronto Argonauts (the winners) and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Famously known as the "Mud Bowl," it was the first televised football game in Canada. The sepia-toned ink drawings show the artist's grandfather as he breaks-away from a pack of players until he is tackled. Varsity Stadium was commissioned by Circuit Gallery as part of the urban story-telling project Flip-Toronto in 2012.
