Memento Florae: An Architectural Installation by Patrick Mahon

publication44

Mahon, Patrick (2002)

This brochure documents an installation by Patrick Mahon at the Central Library February 25 to June 20, 1999. High modernist architecture became possible when the use of glass and steel had advanced far beyond the necessity for other, heavier building materials such as bricks and mortar. The displacement of earlier, arguably more solid materials suggests, metaphorically, the potential that a kind of historical forgetfulness occurred at the same time. Memento Florae is intended to remind us that underneath skin and bones is the blood and guts that constitutes history.
