Roula Partheniou: Index
Through her work, Toronto-based artist Roula Partheniou questions how much visual information we need to recognize objects, encouraging viewers to challenge visual assumptions through her recreations of household items – from chalk to cheese – constructed from painted fibreboard and polymer clay. Part monograph, part beautifully produced artist book, Roula Partheniou: Index brings together significant bodies of work including House & Home & Garden, 2015; Odd One Out, 2015; and Parts and Wholes, 2013, among others. Richly illustrated throughout, the book also includes critical texts by Jennifer Matotek, Jon Davies, Ivan Jurakic, Fynn Leitch, Peggy Gale, and an interview with Nate McLeod. Published by Dunlop Art Gallery in partnership with Oakville Galleries, University of Waterloo Art Gallery, Art Gallery of Peterborough, and Contemporary Calgary.
