Polataiko, Taras (1999)

Scotoma documents an exhibition of work by Saskatoon artist Taras Polataiko at Dunlop Art Gallery from November 5, 1998 to January 3, 1999. In Scotoma, Polataiko invokes ideas of vision, blindness, fear of the invisible and surveillance. Comprised of fourteen life-size trompe l'oeil self-portraits, these paintings suggest subtle, and frequently overlooked, relationships among perception, vision and knowing, the forms and circumstances of representation.
