An earthquake rips through Ottawa, and Miranda uncovers a plot to destroy the Elves. Nicholas falls into the clutches of the Dwarf-snake and a band of vicious Ogres, and Miranda and company embark on a perilous quest to rescue him. They must also find the Twisted Blade, the only thing that will stop the monstrous Calad-Chold dead.
