In Connecticut in the 1740s, Ian learns much from his grandfather, maintains a friendship with an old Algonquin Indian, faces uprisings, King George's War, and the bitter aftermath of the siege of Louisbourg, remaining true throughout to the Presbyterian faith that drew his family there from Scotland.
