Award-winning author library's new Writer in Residence

RPL is pleased to announce that local author Iryn Tushabe is the 2026-2027 Writer in Residence. Her debut novel, Everything is Fine Here, was longlisted for CBC’s Canada Reads and won a Saskatchewan Book Award.

“Having benefited from RPL’s Writer in Residence program myself, it’s an honour to now be in a position to help other writers and storytellers in Regina,” Tushabe said. “I look forward to working with writers in my community, whether they’re new or established.”

Tushabe is a Ugandan Canadian writer and independent journalist living in Regina. Her novel, Everything is Fine Here, was named a CBC Best Book of 2025 and won the First Book Award at the Saskatchewan Book Awards. She’s published both fiction and creative non-fiction in places such as Literary Hub, The Walrus, and The Journey Prize anthology.

“Iryn is in a unique position as our newest Writer in Residence,” Tanya Rogoschewsky, Director of Community Engagement and Programming at Regina Public Library said. “The assistance she received from previous Writers in Residence enabled her to publish an award-winning book, and now she’s able to help others in the same position.”

Tushabe’s residency runs from September 8 to June 29, 2027. Regina residents can book appointments by emailing wir@reginalibrary.ca.

The RPL Writer in Residence program offers advice and mentorship for aspiring, emerging, and established writers. Writers can receive one-on-one assistance with personal writing projects and attend programs and group workshops led by the Writer in Residence.
