Bio: Brooklin Stormie is an artist and illustrator based in Peterborough, Ontario. A lifelong storyteller, picture-drawer, and stargazer, she began creating her own tales before she could read or write by dramatically dictating them to her parents. She fell in love with outer space on August 12, 2010, when her family climbed Armour Hill to watch the Perseid Meteor shower. Brooklin is a grad of Ontario College of Art and Design University’s illustration program. She enjoys going on many adventures and side quests, creating art on windows, giant flowerpots, and even pirate ships. Astronautical! is Brooklin’s first graphic novel and she plans to continue making more. In the Making Comics Workshop, Brooklin will discuss how a comic page comes to life from rough sketch to finished art with examples from her graphic novel, Astronautical! Through a series of short, fun drawing exercises, participants will explore key comic-making skills, including how to draw expressive characters, use speech bubbles and experiment with lettering styles. They’ll even tackle a timed drawing challenge to unlock their creativity.
