Mandy Currie: Right Foot, Left Foot, You’re Doing Great

Description

Join us for this year's Queen City Marathon speaker talk with Mandy Currie, winner of women's Hikuri 81K ultra race in Mexico. Discover her journey of resilience, confidence, and passion for running.

Additional Information

Mandy Currie shares the highs and lows of a running journey that began on the paved roads of Saskatchewan and eventually led her to trails, mountains, marathons, and a deeper understanding of her own strength. As a registered nurse, mother, runner, and artist, Mandy reflects on how running has shaped her confidence, resilience, career, and connection to community, including her first-place finish in the Hikuri 81K in Mexico, which qualified her for the prestigious Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc final in France. She also speaks honestly about supporting her sister Lisa through a 10½-year cancer journey, and how running helped her move through grief while learning that joy and sorrow can exist side by side. This talk is about running. But it is also about grit, mindset, healing, and the simple power of putting one foot in front of the other when life asks us to carry heavy things.

About Mandy Currie

My name is Mandy Currie. I am a wife, mother of two, registered nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in Saskatoon, runner, Salomon Run Ambassador, and artist—not always in that order.

I discovered my passion for distance running in 2010, and it has shaped nearly every aspect of my life. Through running, I have discovered strengths I never knew I possessed. It has taught me how to push my limits, build resilience, and develop confidence in who I am, both on and off the trail.

The connections I made through the running community ultimately led me to my career in the PICU, a role that has deepened my appreciation for perseverance, compassion, and human connection. Running has carried me through many challenges, but perhaps the most significant was supporting my sister, Lisa, throughout her 10½-year cancer journey—a marathon of its own. After her passing, running became an important part of how I navigated grief, helping me find moments of joy, purpose, and healing while learning that grief and joy can coexist.

My running journey began on the paved roads of Saskatchewan, where I have completed multiple marathons and half marathons. Over the years, running has taken me to some of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. Not long after I started running, I discovered trail running and immediately felt at home. I often say that I have prairie blood but a mountain heart.

I don’t believe I’ve found my limit yet, and I’m still searching for it.
