Additional Information

Held at the Shumiatcher Theatre at the MacKenzie Art Gallery, 475 Albert Street.

Celebrate Freedom to Read Week with our February Hot Topic: Freedom of Expression.

Intellectual freedom is a core value of public libraries and freedom of expression is recognized as vital to a democratic society. How do public institutions balance protecting intellectual freedom with creating spaces that welcome everyone, when some perspectives deny the validity or worth of others? What are our social responsibilities? How do we reconcile competing values? What is the role of social media in both inflaming these debates, and in providing a platform to support freedom of expression? Are some limits on intellectual freedom reasonable, or even necessary?
