Introduction by Mark Black:
As we gather here today, I wish to acknowledge this land on which we gather as Treaty 4 Territory, the traditional lands of the Cree, Dakota, Nakota, Lakota, Saulteaux and the homeland of the Métis Nation.
Regina Public Library is committed to working together with Indigenous peoples as we take an important step forward on the pathway of collaboration, reconciliation, and change.
Welcome to the RPL Film Theatre, thank you so much for joining us to view the film, The Library That Dolly Built: Celebrating the People Who Made Dolly’s Dream Come True. This film features 3 great institutions – the postal service, the library and Dolly Parton. This is a story about Dolly Parton’s efforts to improve the lives of children in her home county of Sevier County Tennessee by inspiring them to read and instill in them the value of reading. You’re going to learn a lot Dolly Parton – never a bad thing, but more importantly you’re going to learn something that you’re probably already quite aware of – while libraries don’t necessarily save lives, libraries do positively impact them.
