Freedom to Read Week
February 22 - 28, 2026
What if your favourite book was banned?
Freedom to Read Week is an annual event celebrated at the end of February. It encourages Canadians to think about and reaffirm their commitment to intellectual freedom. At Regina Public Library, intellectual freedom is a core part of who we are and how we serve our community. It's one of our values, and we're proud of the work we do to support everyone's freedom to seek, receive, and share information and ideas.
Every year, we encourage people to read a book that has been challenged or banned in places around the world. Part of our commitment to intellectual freedom is to allow people to read and decide for themselves by providing access to a wide variety of resources and materials that reflect many different perspectives and experiences.
We know that in other parts of the world, and even in our own country, intellectual freedom is being challenged. That's why now, more than ever, we encourage everyone to think (and read!) critically, make informed choices, and engage respectfully with ideas that may be different from our own.
Below are some reading lists and resources you can use to guide your journey towards intellectual freedom.
