Why We Are Wired to Run
Description
Alex Hutchinson will share insights from his 2025 book The Explorer’s Gene. Hear how exploration in any form—from trying a new food to running a marathon—is an essential ingredient of human life.Additional Information
Join us for this year’s Queen City Marathon author talk. People often start running to get healthier, but the reasons they keep running are more complicated. Recent findings in anthropology, biology, and neuroscience suggest that we’re drawn to challenges that teach us about our own limits and about the world around us. This “explorer’s gene” spurs to us explore both the physical world and the world of ideas—and sends us out running.
A book signing will follow the talk, with copies of The Explorer’s Gene available for purchase.
