A Books4Me Snow Day

Ready for a snow day?

Ok, we rarely take snow days here in Regina, being hardy prairie folk. But winter is here, so it’s a good time to talk about being prepared for the unexpected.

Hopefully we’ve all got our home and car emergency kits stocked with everything we’ll need to handle a flat tire, power outage, or holiday zombie apocalypse (shoutout to my fellow Christopher Moore fans).

But are you ready for an entertainment emergency?!

We love a good binge-watch as much as the next person, but if the power goes out for more than an hour, or you’re concerned about your kids having too much screen time during a classroom close-contact isolation period, you might want to have some non-digital options on hand. Our favourite? Books (obviously)!

Our Books4Me service is a great way to start building your entertainment emergency kit.

Fill out our online form to get a personalized list of reading recommendations based on your interests. Then enter the titles from your Books4Me list into our catalogue to borrow them from the library – or use it as your shopping or wish list.

And just like that, you’ve got three weeks worth of reading material on standby!

Or if you’re extra nerdy like me, you can pair your Books4Me titles with other items you have on hand – choose recipe books themed to match whatever’s currently lingering in your freezer; pair knitting magazines with your yarn stash; or break out the art supplies and take inspiration from DIY crafting books. The possibilities are basically endless.

What’s in your entertainment emergency kit?
