Poetic Camouflage

publication37

(1996)

Regina artist Wee Lee's representations of wildlife ecosystems share the appearance of conventional wildlife paintings. In this catalogue, essayist Helen Marzolf explores a specific body of Wee Lee's production which usurps a traditional "wildlife as game" convention in favour of depicting themes of camouflage, predations and regeneration, and combines stylistic components of European easel painting with those of Chinese calligraphy.
