Give the joy of reading

RPL storytimes and children’s programs are staple activities for families from all over Regina. Besides being a fun way to connect with other families, these programs also create opportunities for caregivers and parents to help their children develop early literacy skills.

Our doors are closed right now, but we’re still hosting storytimes and other children’s programs online. We even created a series of DIY storytime videos – but online offerings aren’t the solution for everyone.

In a recent report from the University of Regina, as of 2017, over 26% of Saskatchewan children were living in poverty. Even though a few years have passed, there are still many families in our community that don't have ready access to technology, and few resources to provide at-home learning materials for their children.

Last year, with your support and donations from our community, we gave out 500 Summer Learning kits to Regina children living in vulnerable circumstances. Each kit contained everything needed for an at-home storytime experience, including children’s storybooks, activity booklets, crossword puzzles, colouring pages and art supplies, and a DVD of RPL storytime activities.

This year, we hope to provide another 1,000 Summer Learning kits to young families who rely on RPL for essential early literacy support. We need your help to meet our goal.

One Summer Learning kit costs just $25.

Donate today to give the joy of reading to a child in our community.

Summer Learning kits will be distributed through the City of Regina’s Play Escapes summer camp initiative, local food distribution programs, and community partnerships with organizations like The Regina Open Door Society and the North Central Family Centre. Additional kits may also be distributed through our Write On program series for children.
