Flags of Unsung Countries, which recently opened at Dunlop Art Gallery, embodies the artist’s struggle to belong to both her Nigerian home and her Canadian one. Liz Ikiriko, who is a biracial Nigerian Canadian, uses photography to document her journey to learn more about her Nigerian father. Her struggle is that of many newcomers. How can we belong in Canada and yet hold on to the legacy of a previous home? What makes a home - is it a geography, a building, a memory? Do we choose to belong, or does it choose us?
