The snow is falling, a fire is burning in the fireplace, and we're ready to curl up and read. This year we asked our Collections team to tell us what books they are reading this December to help you figure out your to-read plans for the holidays.

Day 1: Daphne by Josh Malerman – Fiction
- According to the ghost story told by Kit’s basketball teammate, Daphne is a former student who died mysteriously, and every time someone thinks about her, she will return and commit murder. Fans of classic slasher movies and urban legend stories will be interested in this one.
Day 2: So This Is Ever After by F.T. Lukens – Teen
- A laugh out loud fantasy romcom about what happens after the hero vanquishes the evil foe.
Day 3: Babel by R.F. Kuang – Fiction
- A must-read if you’re a fan of dark academia. A fantasy set in Imperial England that explores the power of language.
Day 4: Our Voice of Fire by Brandi Morin – Non-fiction
- Learn more about the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls crisis and be inspired by the life of survivor and Indigenous activist Brandi Moran.
Day 5: The Cloisters by Katy Hays – Fiction
- A gothic museum in New York City. A mysterious deck of tarot cards. Curiosity that turns deadly. Sign us up for this thrilling debut novel full of twists and turns!
Day 6: Only in Saskatchewan by Naomi Hansen – Non-fiction
- Explore the beautiful sights and delicious recipes of our province. Only in Saskatchewan shares a bit of history about well-loved restaurants and eateries across the province and some feature recipes from each.
Day 7: The Book Eaters by Sunyi Dean – Fiction
- Read this one if you are in the mood for a dark fantasy filled with fascinating details about creatures who eat books to survive and a mother desperate to save her son who must feed on human minds to live.
Day 8: Apartment 713 by Kevin Sylvester – Family
- Friendship, mystery, time travel and a building that is as much a character as the people – this one would be a great bedtime read-aloud to savour chapter by chapter.
Day 9: Prisoners of the Castle by Ben Macintyre – Non-fiction
- Colditz is a castle in Germany that was used during World War II to imprison POWs. Macintyre explores the colourful cast of characters imprisoned in Colditz, and their attempts at escape. A great read for history buffs and people who loved The Great Escape.
Day 10: The Blur by Minh Lê. Illustrated by Dan Santat – Family
- This book about a family following the birth of their child to approaching adulthood will have you reflecting on how quickly time flies and is a great reminder to savour every moment.
Day 11: Ain’t Burned All the Bright by Jason Reynolds. Illustrated by Jason Griffin – Teen
- The perfect read for reflecting on some of the serious moments of the last few years and looking to the future.
Day 12: The Maid by Nita Prose – Fiction
- A light-hearted cozy mystery with a quirky protagonist. This one will soon be part of our Book Club in a Bag collection, so you can get a head start for 2023.
