New friends in Saskatchewan

Supporting newcomers in Saskatchewan is nothing new for us. We’ve always worked to support our customers with services like one-on-one job coaching and English language tutoring, as well as with our diverse collection, rich in multiple languages.

However, when hearing about the settlement needs of newcomer Ukrainians throughout this year, we stepped up our efforts. This time, with many of our community partners at our side.

Every Saturday since early July, the staff at Central library have been working with Ukrainian community volunteers to lead Ukrainian Newcomer Information Sessions. This program is filled with translated presentations, created by specialized staff, on topics like job searching, English language learning, and information about family literacy and programming.

We’ve had help from partners in the community:

In addition to these community organizations and our staff, we’d like to thank the volunteers who started it all – Valentyn and Maria. Together, we are creating a comprehensive network of support for newcomers.

Should you be inspired to assist, we encourage people to apply with our volunteer team.

If you know Ukrainian newcomers that would benefit from our Information Sessions, check our website for further opportunities and support. The sessions are biweekly on Saturday mornings.
