There's music in the air

We are in a musical mood at the library and have so much that we want to share with you to get you reading, listening, watching and playing!

To get you reading

The Lives of Brian by Brian Johnson

AC/DC legendary frontman takes readers through his early life, looking at the people, places and music that helped shape him. While he doesn’t shy away from the sadder moments of his youth, most of his stories had me laughing out loud. I listened to the audiobook which Johnson reads himself, and that really added to the overall experience.

This Is What It Sounds Like by Susan Rogers

This one had me thinking about my favorite songs and singers. Rogers is a successful record producer turned brain scientist taking us on a journey to discover why we fall in love with the music that we do and what it says about us. This one also comes with a playlist and it was fun to track down all the songs she references and listen to them with new … um, ears so to speak.

Into The Groove by Jonathan Scott

This is the fascinating story of recorded sound from the earliest days of first sound recordings to the rise, fall, and rise again of vinyl. A must for audiophiles and music fans in general.

To get you listening

If you want to stream your music just go to hoopla where you’ll find a huge collection of albums for every musical taste – pop, jazz, blues, rock, country – it’s all there. The library also has access to Naxos Music Library the world’s largest online collection of classical music.

To get you watching

Kanopy is a great source for streaming award-winning movies and documentaries, and I am addicted. You get 10 checkouts a month and it is instant access so no holds or waiting. Its music category is vast and I love to browse it. Here are some of my recent favorites.

The Complete Ken Burns’ Country Music

Gordon Lightfoot: If You Could Read My Mind

How The Beatles Changed The World

To get you playing

Did you know that you can borrow musical instruments from the library? We have acoustic guitars, banjos, even ukuleles! All you need is your library card.
