Ready to run?

One of our favourite local events is coming up this weekend: The Queen City Marathon. We love it because we get a chance to connect with folks from all over the world, as well as our own community.

I’m not a runner myself, but I do love an inspiring story. The running world is chock full of them – along with plenty of guides to help you get started, or level up, on your running journey.

We’ve pulled together a reading list for all kinds of runners below, including a few titles from past RPL presenters Alex Hutchinson, Martin Parnell and Becky Wade Firth.

Speaking of presenters: there’s still time to register for Chris Koch’s motivational talk, If I Can, coming up this Thursday night at 6:00pm. Registration is open for in-person and livestream options now on Eventbrite.

Run the World: My 3,500-mile Journey through Running Cultures around the Globe, by Becky Wade Firth

The Secret Marathon: Empowering Women and Girls in Afghanistan through Sport, by Martin Parnell

Endure: Mind, Body, and the Curiously Elastic Limits of Human Performance, by Alex Hutchinson

Total Running, by Men’s and Women’s Running

Anatomy of Running: a trainer's guide to running, by Philip Striano

Running Past Fifty: advice and inspiration for senior runners, by Gail W. Kislevitz

How She Did It: a high-performance guide for female distance runners with stories from the women who’ve made it, by Molly Huddle and Sara Slattery

Your Best Stride: how to optimize your natural running form to run easier, farther, and faster – with fewer injuries, by Jonathan Beverly

Jog On: how running saved my life, by Bella Mackie
