Support Indigenous Business

What can I do? I’ve asked this question of myself many times since the Calls to Action for Truth and Reconciliation came out in 2015.

One of the things I can do immediately is support local Indigenous businesses. With the help of the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce’s directory, I found out there are over 60 Indigenous-led businesses in Regina alone!

Whether I’m looking for a haircut or a gym or a hoodie, there are lots of options to choose from, and many also give back to good causes, have a wonderful origin story, or use Indigenous wisdom in their practices.

Here’s a list of ten local Indigenous-led businesses that you can look up right now. Maybe a few of them can become your new go-to.

  1. Tangles Hair & Beauty Salon
  2. Sweetgrass Communications and Event Planning
  3. Miyosiwin Salon and Spa
  4. Morningstar Counselling Services
  5. Anytime Fitness East and North
  6. Cardinal Sage Holistic Wellness Centre
  7. Neechie Gear
  8. Page Bookkeeping and Consulting
  9. Brooks Interview Coaching
  10. Anaquod Videography

To learn more about how to support reconciliation in your workplace, register for Nick Crighton’s talk on decolonizing the workplace on October 18, or Thomas Benjoe’s talk on the economic impact of Indigenous-led businesses on October 21.
