Join us for this year’s Queen City Marathon author talk. People often start running to get healthier, but the reasons they keep running are more complicated. Recent findings in anthropology, biology, and neuroscience suggest that we’re drawn to challenges that teach us about our own limits and about the world around us. This “explorer’s gene” spurs to us explore both the physical world and the world of ideas—and sends us out running.
A book signing will follow the talk, with copies of The Explorer’s Gene available for purchase.

About the Presenter: Bryanne Wandler is a Youth Coordinator for the prairies division of Youth Eco Stewards, a new initiative Invasives Canada has launched with funding support from Canada Service Corps. Youth Eco Stewards is a national, environmental skills development program for youth between 12-30 years old. Invasives Canada works with partners across the country to deliver tools and resources that call for Canadians to take action and prevent the spread of invasive species. Rhonda Donais lives in Regina and is a member of Ocean Man First Nation. She has been a performer and storyteller for over 30 years. Rhonda has participated in children’s festivals, exhibitions, and fairs. Although she enjoys telling silly and scary stories, her favorite stories are the First Nations’ animal legends and Algonquian songs she teaches. Rhonda likes to incorporate drum playing into her storytelling. She is very passionate about her art.

Jodi Robson is a proud member of the Okanese First Nation in Treaty Four Territory. She is of Cree and Nakoda heritage. Thanks to her successful run as a finalist in season 3 of CBC's The Great Canadian Baking Show, Jodi was able to showcase her culture and culinary skills nationwide. During the season 5 Holiday Special, she was once again able to share her passion for baking and the inspiration derived from her family and life as an Indigenous woman.
Jodi resides in Regina, with her partner and their two children. Together, they enjoy the outdoors while camping, hiking, and foraging year-round.
